I SEE YOUR SHADOW

After roughly 6 years in this band, we found it was time to address what Lehnen is really all about. So much has happened since we first started out. Many things wonderful, some, on the other hand, disheartening and frustrating. One's motivations for being an artist can get lost in the hectic lifestyle that accompanies being in a band, so it was time for us to find our way back to the heart of what inspired us in the first place.

As a young band, Joel and I first sought out to make big, epic rock music; music you didn't find all too often in Vienna, Austria. The first song sketches layed bare in front of us, and eventually, through the addition of two multi-talented Austrians (Stefan and Martin), we expanded on our sound. Songs came to life, the first demo came into existence, we scraped together the money to have it mixed and mastered, and we released the music to the public. Like every band starting out, we were excited as hell! We dreamt of massive tours, fandom and fame, and the opportunity to make positive changes in the world. It was time to begin.

Next came our first album, "This Could Be Our Dream Home", an album full of ambition, but ultimately, full of compromise due to many factors. What was supposed to be an album full of climaxes and theatrics turned out to be one of mixed moods. Critics and "fans" alike agreed on that. But it was our first album. You must be allowed to make mistakes in your early stages.

Next up: "Awake". Our second album led us into more experimental pastures. Our love for electronic music was put on display more frequently than on our previous works; something we were excited to try out. Nonetheless, we still found ourselves struggling with our identity. Our desire to write an album entirely cohesive and flowing put us under greater pressure than we could handle. Once again, compromises were made, and songs that perhaps should've been left out or replaced with other more suitable pieces found their way on to the final cut, but we were proud and happy with our accomplishment. Still, our dreams were far, far away from coming true.

After releasing "Awake", we began touring the USA for longer periods of time finding that the people over there were surprisingly much more open to our sound than our hometown. That's not to say people in Austria have not been kind to us. We continue to play wonderful concerts here on our hometurf, but latest by the time we began work on our next EP, "We Were Made for Destruction", we realised something: "Lehnen is not exactly, and perhaps WON'T BE, "IN" in Austria". So we drew inspiration from our friends in the US (bands such as Caspian, Junius, Constants, Rosetta, etc...) as they toured both Europe and the states, watching them completely DESTROY audiences with their powerful rock anthems. It wasn't so much their music or their sound that inspired us. It was the fact that they DID WHAT THEY WANTED without caring if their music conformed to current trends.

So, in mid-2011, we found ourselves back at home after our second tour of the US that broke us financially and left some of us confused and even heartbroken. It was time for a change; a change unlike the ones we'd experienced before. We decided to write the SONG, not the album, do whatever it takes to make it the best song possible even if it meant passing on the temptation to rely on things like electronic beats, and let that wall of sound breath from time to time, sometimes even leaving vocals out. "I See Your Shadow" was conceived using a new mindset: Do the best you can, have fun with it, and stop looking to the future for change. Change is everywhere you choose to see it. Using this mindset and 1,5 years of stage absence (along with help from Ronny Dangl in the studio and Will Benoit of Radar Recording Studios behind the mix and mastering), 10 songs finally found a way to live in harmony.

Another change we decided to make pertains to finding a home for our band (by home I mean a "label"). After being told that our music "is great, but unmarketable" by more labels we'd care to admit, we decided it was time to really market it ourselves. CLOUD CONTACT RECORDS was born. Our very own label for music inspired by beautiful, ambient music; a label that not only aims to inspire hope through sound, but by making financial contributions to charitable organisations.

Sonically, "I See Your Shadow" is closer to our initial dream than anything we've released in the past. Upon first looking at the song titles and scanning through the lyrics, one may be tempted to believe this album is about death. It isn't. Death is a prominent character that reappears when necessary, driving the REAL point home : "Life won't wait. If you have love in your life, embrace it and never let go."; a message made even more personal to the members of our band by the passing of several loved ones in our family and the families involved in the creation of the record. But while they moved on, we feel like we've been given the chance to start anew.

Now, assuming we are truly starting over, does our dream of success and fame look the same as it did way back in 2006? To a certain degree, yes, of course. Who WOULDN'T want to tour and play for a living? Who wouldn't want their name plastered all over massive billboards and stadium signs. Who doesn't long for acceptance and affirmation for their creation? These are drives that continue to inspire us along with just about every other band on the face of the planet.

But perhaps the most important thing we have learned as band over the last 7 years is this: while you're waiting for your dreams to come true, make sure to live your life as if it had already happened. If you want to make an impact, you can't wait to do it until you have everyone's attention. Be thankful for what you have and put your passion and thankfulness for it on display on as many stages and records as possible until you're absolutely unable to go on. THAT is what Lehnen is about. THAT is what we want to continue to do.

The second to last song on the new record , "Take Me Home", finds Joel admitting "Time, I see your shadow as you're swallowing my light". Until that light goes out, we'll be here doing what we love and believe in.
We would like to thank everyone who made this record and this BAND possible over the years! Here's to many more!

God Bless,

Since we got back from our last US- tour a year ago, we haven't played many shows. It will probably still be a while before we do, but we are right in the middle of the writing process for our new record. For us, this has been very intense.

Life, as always has been pretty crazy for everyone in the band. I have spent most of 2012 planning my wedding, and about 30 hours in the studio every week writing new material. We are really taking our time with this new album, making sure that there is no comprimise, and really paying attention to the flow of the songs.

This album is a departure from a lot of the things we have done on previous recordings- for one thing, it's a lot heavier. I have spent a lot of time simply working on guitar sounds and experimenting with different pedals. Generally, we have been writing songs that focus on creating a full sound using the main insturments in the band: drums, bass and guitars, and depending less on synths and electronic drums. There will even be a few instrumental tracks on this one.

It should not take us too much longer- my guess would be late this year, but it should definitely be worth the wait! Check back soon; as soon as we are in the studio I will be posting updates and videos!

Cheers!
JOEL///LEHNENLehnenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07121273201541251570noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1265789380650081254.post-22534715935474509212012-02-29T04:00:00.000-08:002012-08-20T04:00:41.823-07:00Lehnen LP3 TeaserLehnenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07121273201541251570noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1265789380650081254.post-34482458518883910182011-06-25T04:16:00.000-07:002011-06-25T04:24:06.185-07:00We Were Made For DestructionDear Friends,

So, come July 8th, "We Were Made For Destruction" will officially be released. It's been a long time coming, but I don't think anyone will regret having waiteda bit longer than anticipated. This EP is very close to our hearts due to several reasons. For one, it's the first Lehnen release to feature the acoustic guitar- an instrument we never thought we'd use for our music, but the song it's featured on happens to be one of my favorite songs of ours to date.

Moreover, this EP marks the end of an era for Lehnen and the beginning of another. "What does this mean?", you may be asking yourselves...

We've officially started working on new songs for a third full-length. It's hard to say in which direction the next album is going to take us. I think the only hint we feel comfortable sharing with you at this point is that we want the next record to sound like our current live performances. If you've seen us play semi-recently, you should have a pretty decent idea of what that sounds like, mainly: nothing like our previous releases. :) We feel the need to approach things with more authenticity on this album. This may prove to be a bigger challenge than we currently think. So, for all we know you may be hearing a new record by next spring or you may be waiting a few years. All we know is that this next record has got to be the best thing we've ever made. It's time to really push the envelope.

All of that having been said, there's a good chance we won't be playing many shows in the near future, but when LP3 is done, we'll be excited and ready to hit the road again. This is an exciting time for us as a band. We're glad you are all a part of it.

Take care,

Matthew//LEHNENLehnenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07121273201541251570noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1265789380650081254.post-82214026979859748212011-03-28T14:22:00.000-07:002011-03-28T14:27:26.931-07:00Last Breath Before The PlungeOur second tour ended a little over a week ago in Austin during SXSW. It was funny how things worked out for us starting the very same night as my last blog entry (you’ll remember that it included a laundry list of things that went wrong for us…). Well, that night in Shreveport, LA of all places, we celebrated Lehnen’s 100th show in proper fashion- a tight show, good transitions, good vibes, and in excellent company (oh yeah…and FREE OF TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES!). With spirits lifted, we drove on to Austin the next day where we were greeted by chaos; the chaos that is the South By Southwest Music Festival.

Imagine a city overrun by zombies….except these ones aren’t out for your brains. They’re after shows, booze, and whatever illicit substances the streets have to offer. Probably sounds like paradise to some. It was a bit overwhelming for us as a band, but hey….we had a show to play. So, after carrying our equipment through dense crowds of hipsters parading the blocked off streets, we began setting up our gear backstage and preparing for the show we’d all been waiting for. JBTV and the Trophy Room set up a pretty tight schedule, so we scrambled once the band before us was finished with their set. After the fastest soundcheck we’d ever done in our life, we began to play. I cannot remember a whole lot save for the fact that there was sweat everywhere; in all our eyes, my back, my legs, arms, my cymbals, snare…even my coveted synth station. I also remember holding my breath through many stretches praying for our samples to work flawlessly. And they did. It was our favorite show up until then.

Unfortunately, our second show set up for that week had to be cancelled, so we killed time by seeing other friends destroy on stage, playing Texas Hold ‘Em, and….well, at the very end, imbibing liquor so vile and disgusting it should be illegal (lest any parents get unnecessarily upset, I’ll go on record and say it was only me who was stupid and curious enough to do this). Dumb? Yes, but this form of stupidity inspired one of the best things to happen to us on tour. Our hosts along with some other friends jokingly suggested we set up our equipment in their garage and play a last-minute house show. Well, we were out of Four Loko (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Four_(energy_drink)) and MD 20/20 (http://www.bumwine.com/md2020.html) , so why not play a quick show for friends before hopping into the smelly tardcave for 18 hours? We called as many friends as possible, set up, and shred (kind of like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JHUF00Q6CYs) for about 35 minutes. Not how we expected to end our second tour, but as it turns out, we had more fun at that “show” than at any other on the entire tour.

(Notice our friend, Justin, adding R. Kelly’s “Pregnant” to our jam-session of “Home” that ensued at the end of the concert…priceless)
Hugs were given, hands shaken, bags packed, and rubber burned as the Lehnen mobile peeled out of the driveway on its final voyage back to Fort Collins, CO. Two short days later, my friends left for home.

So, I’m still in Fort Collins spending time with friends and enjoying a bit of time off from long car-rides, setting up, tearing down, and sleeping on floors. I’ll be leaving soon, and settling back into normal life. The end of a tour is always bizarre. For a month, one becomes accustomed to living on the road and off of the goodness of people who open their houses and apartments to you. Sometimes I forget that I have a home of my own across the Atlantic. I love touring. I love playing concerts every day. I love meeting new people. I love re-uniting with friends and family in this place. I have even come to love the challenges one is faced with while abroad. Watching it all come to an end is painful. A close friend once said to me, “Just when I think my heart can’t break any more, it does…”. We’ve all learned a few things about pain and uncertainty while on tour this time around. It’s become so very real, and at times it’s made us all ask ourselves, “Is this really worth it”. Even in the dark times, we’ve come to agree, “Yes, it is”.

On that note, I (on behalf of all of LEHNEN) would like to thank the following people:

Laura Daley (our friend, booking agent, and Mom abroad- we love you truly)
David and Lisa Boyd (thank you for welcoming us into your home each time we come out here)
Our dear, dear friends in the bands Caspian, Walking Oceans, For A Minor Reflection, Junius, Constants, Elevator Action, and a plethora of others I have surely (and regrettably) forgotten.
All of our friends and loved ones scattered across the plains of North America (and back home, of course!)
Charity:Water (for inspiring so much love and goodness towards people who need it)
Glenfiddich

We have a few fun spring/summer shows coming up this year, but after that, we all foresee a season of silence as we take our last breaths before the plunge and begin expanding our sound and recording it. The future is wide open, and I think I see light. Thank you

Matthew//LEHNENLehnenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07121273201541251570noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1265789380650081254.post-14609273623750260412011-03-15T18:05:00.001-07:002011-03-15T18:05:38.734-07:00JamesIt’s been about 2 weeks since my last blog entry, so I figured it was time for an update. This one isn’t the happiest I’ve ever written for Lehnen, so if you’re looking for a “picker-upper”, read between the lines or look elsewhere. Just as I tell you all of the wonderful experiences we’ve had on the road, I think it’s only fair of me to be honest and let you know that sometimes things go wrong, too.

The last time I blogged we were in Minneapolis. That was pretty much the last concert to go somewhat as expected. Pretty funny, actually. All was well in our world on tour over here, and that is precisely where I left you all off. Since then, a number of things have gone awry. I don’t care to make this a long account of all the misfortunes we’ve had over the last few weeks, so I’ll put it in bulletin form.

• Madison, WI. The venue tells us we’re unable to play our show there. There was apparently a misunderstanding between their booking agent and ours. Who is actually to blame shall remain nameless. First show on the tour to be cancelled.
• Chicago, IL. Our electronic and bass samples die twice during our set during the second most important show of the tour. The end of “Home” (our closing song of late) is played without bass and (at least to us) comes across as powerless.
• Fort Wayne, IN. The venue/pizza parlor in which our show is booked failed to inform our booking agent that they do not have a sound system. Laura (our booking agent) manages to find a sound guy who shows up and does a good job for us. Still, there was little to no promotion and the bands playing that night (ours and our good friends FOR A MINOR REFLECTION) end up playing for each other.
• Pittsburgh, PA. Our (borrowed) bass-amp starts showing signs of failure when the samples come out sound crackled. We attempt to use another band’s amp. Two songs in, their bass amp loses power and begins emitting strange smells. Another bass amp is brought up on stage, and we manage to finish the show.
• No Boston concert. Fuck (our exact response to the sad news along with that of many friends in the state of Massachusetts).
• New York City. Amazing show yielding promising new connections. Unfortunately, our van breaks down in front of our host’s house in Brooklyn at 3:30am. The next morning Joel has the van towed to a repair shop. We spend all of the money we’d earned on tour up until then on repairs. All fueling expenses are paid out of pocket from that moment on.
• Harrisonburg, VA. We speed down the highway in attempts of making our show that night. We end up arriving right as the headlining act takes the stage. We set up our gear, soundcheck, and begin to play. By the time we start, it’s nearly 1am, and all but 7-8 people have gone home. Our samples die once during the performance as well.
• Asheville, NC. We arrive at the Emerald Lounge where nobody seems to realize we are included in the line-up for the night. The other two bands are country/folk outfits and they draw a fitting crowd for their likes. We go two doors down to a hookah bar where two young gentlemen are playing wonderful ambient/drone music. We end up playing after them, but there aren’t very many people there, and again, our samples crash. Nobody is able to give us a place to stay, so we pay even more money for a motel.
• Clarksville, TN. Our show in Athens, GA gets cancelled due to problems with the police, so Laura adds us to the line up of a show just outside of Nashville. Virtually no one shows up outside of a few friends of ours and the opening act. Samples die towards the end of the set. Again. No money for gas is given to any of the bands that night.
• Memphis, TN. Laura informs us that we will be sharing the stage with our dear friends from Walking Oceans along with For a Minor Reflection. Literally NO ONE shows up at the bar. The opening act plays, the rest of us come to the conclusion that it’s not worth the hassle of setting up. We all just laugh and drink a few watered-down beers together (which with all of the shit that we’ve been through at that point is really all one can do). At least I can say we had a night in which our samples didn’t crash.

So, yes- we’ve been through a bit of a shit phase recently. By the time our van broke down in NY, I thought I might lose my sanity. I am a devout Christian and I believe in God’s goodness. I believe in His saving grace and love for all of humanity. I believe in all of these things in the good times and in the bad, but there are certainly days in which I wonder why things happen the way they do. I know that I (along with my beloved friends in Lehnen) are lucky and beyond blessed. Look at Japan right now. Think of the thousands of people dying daily due to preventable causes. Look at the pointless wars being waged, the drug abuse, or the sex-trafficking. There are so many things I, thankfully, have not fallen subject to. I do not know why these things happen. The questions I ask God on a daily basis are not always immediately answered. Some never. Still, I’ve learned that we all have a choice in finding fulfillment. It’s not just about being grateful on days in which all goes according to our desires. I’m starting to see that so much of life is about finding and reminding yourself of things that are beautiful when all else seems hopeless. Hope is everywhere you choose to see it.

This brings us up to where I am right now; sitting at a gas station somewhere in Louisiana. About an hour ago our van unexpectedly ran out of fuel on the highway. Josef and Joel managed to flag down a friendly southerner by the name of James who drives Joel to the nearest gas station and back. We all thank him profusely for his help and apologize for inconveniencing him. He tells us that he might end up being late for dinner, but that his wife will surely understand. “She would’ve done the same thing”, he tells us. His kindness is genuine and for the first time in what seems like forever, I am moved.

Matthew//LEHNENLehnenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07121273201541251570noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1265789380650081254.post-7175654189274803322011-03-01T16:50:00.000-08:002011-03-02T12:24:28.202-08:00Josef is drunk.Lawrence, Kansas- a place that initially looked like something out of a horror film- turned out to be charming and full of friendly people. After spending WAY too much time in Starbucks, we went to SuperTarget, got some swim-trunks, and went swimming at the Lawrence Aquatic Center. It was good to get some exercise in (or if you’re Josef- to fall off of a 3 meter diving board…), but we really just went there to shower. After a thorough wash, we got dressed, ate at Subway, and drove to the venue- the Jackpot Music Hall.

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLZoW_h29mbTFbhchlC3M164xhr95w_OtbNF_zmY16SMjocwp3eS9dx82KtwCm9USbyWjkaPhxlqx9zOWnzdx4tmXgOtNdzdh-pGRDeRL8FYfM-BBjxB1P9XTM9Xf1ikjhM1Xq1kyU47XT/s200/JackpotMusicHallSignLehnen.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5579279683305358450" />

Well, we got there about 5 hours early, so Joel caught up on his sleep in the van while Marty, Josef, and I continued to maintain our (loose, but nonetheless) alcohol regiment with a couple of beers. Just as a side note: Beer and touring just go hand in hand. It doesn’t make you an alcoholic. “That’s just the way of the road, buddy”, as Ray from Trailer Park Boys would say. Anyway, after spending many hours waiting, it turned out that one of the bands we were supposed to play with weren’t able to make it to the show. Still- Elevator Action showed up shortly after 8, so we began gearing up for the night. Elevator Action is a group of young musicians who (like us) are approaching pop music from a more experimental angle. Watching them play was very enjoyable. We played our regular set after them, and talked about all things music for several hours. The show itself was fun, but rather poorly attended. I guess playing a concert on the night of the Oscars Ceremony isn’t exactly the best idea, but those who were there with us had fun nonetheless. We went back to the band’s house, watched some Metalocalypse and called it a night. The next day (after E.A.'s singer showed us a priceless poster of his....)

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 150px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi55XwxXzNTJ4a7SlJIgKk-FnzK4sS1CRSI-f9Uv64puYRC8Za6TcbuRdoVfojBYL3z3RiWxswi98oRBoigRS8Dnm-OhOJBN5D2veJsSRIbMSVYiVl-SIfq1pEk4A0mN9qfyrCKhhZvqh01/s200/CreedPoster.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5579279686668490626" />

we walked around downtown Lawrence visiting an incredible Burger restaurant (The Burger Stand- if you’re ever in Lawrence, get yourself a Kobe Burger with Truffle Fries. Your arteries will hate you for it, but not your taste-buds), a local record store (one I was particular fond of because the owners have a cute cat that runs around the shop), and a T-Shirt printshop for which Elevator Action’s drummer works. We eventually shook hands with our generous hosts, said our farewells, and headed out to Glenwood, Iowa where Joel’s grandmother waited for us patiently.

After a short three-hour drive, we arrived in Glenwood (population of 4,000 people). Joel’s grandmother has to be one of the sweetest people in the world. Her house is small with a narrow staircase leading up to two small bedrooms where the four of us eventually spread out and prepared for sleep. The walls in every room are covered with family portraits, paintings, and stereotypical, “middle of America” decorations.

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 150px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfbKAe1Yd3zu5Uogr1xmZ1vdB_yWMZkqbf1_UOeEcSpNO6Xc1I2R2vC2UNWwrRM_ANbHpuQtcBv7euOQ_g98ycmBBcuR-n3q92RE1AdFZEUSUW6HRiZqNWVBrnKlUm6Ovtif9VV-WG0rOT/s200/UncleDick.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5579279692671612178" />

Standing in her home feels like being in a movie in which the main character is a young college student visiting their extended family for Thanksgiving or Christmas for the first time. There is a warmth filling the house that can only be described as love. She set out milk and cookies for all of us and hugged us goodnight. We each took to our rooms, watched a movie or an episode of a TV show on our laptops, and eventually fell asleep.

We woke up, ate breakfast, and listened to stories about Joel’s family. His grandmother received several phone calls from relatives expressing excitement over meeting us. She gave us a tour of the house including the basement, which she set up as a safe-haven of sorts in case of tornado threats. One could tell how much she enjoyed having us around. Again- a woman whose heart and home is clearly filled with love.

After a lovely lunch with Joel's grandmother and her siblings, we drove up to Ames, IA for our next show. We arrived and were notified by Laura (our booking agent, close friend, and Mom) that one of the other bands would be at a cafe nearby if we wanted to meet up with them. We didn't have any other plans, so we made our way over there. We weren't sure if they were actually in the cafe or not, but eventually Josef decided that the only other group of young guys who looked exhausted must be the crew we were looking for. So, we shook hands with the boys from Walking Oceans and it hit off immediately. This was a trend that seemed to evolve throughout the rest of the night. Again, discussions about music, equipment, and touring ensued as we all geared up for a short and intimate show at the Ames Progressive. I won't go into detail, but suffice it to say we were both very fond of each other's music and live performances. We marveled at each other's performances, bought each other's merch, traded numbers, and wished we had more time to pound a few beers together. Unfortunately, that wasn't in the cards, but (as it turns out) they will also be in Austin for SXSW, so the farewell wasn't quite as disappointing as we'd thought it might be. Below is a video of Walking Oceans destroying. Notice the incredible light rig their drummer built for them...wow.

This pretty much brings us up to speed. We are currently in Minneapolis with our dear, dear friends, John and Katie, waiting to play at The Cause tonight. It's beyond ass-cold in this city. It sucks. (to get a taste of how much it sucks, view the 2 second clip of Josef below. Yes, it's Josef and not a homeless person.) Anyway.... The shows leading up to today have been fun and worthwhile. Still, the things I remember the most so far are the small moments in which everything seems to come into focus; moments in which I am reminded of what life is all about. Joel’s grandmother said it best: “We all only have one day when you think about it. Live it like it’s your last and you’ll be fine.”

Matthew//LEHNENLehnenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07121273201541251570noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1265789380650081254.post-54756299865648588552011-02-27T08:29:00.000-08:002011-02-27T14:07:40.107-08:00Colorado Springs- How well you treat us.Wow...what a night.

We arrived at Colorado Springs' Sunshine Studios at around 5pm. Upon entering the building, we were greeted by extremely friendly people from some of the other bands. We eventually linked up with the promoter and he gave us a tour and run-down of the evening. Everything about that place was professional. Every single member of the staff knew EXACTLY what they were doing. No one was phased by any of our requirements. They had a small table with ass-loads of hotdogs set up for the bands along with ice-cold water and snacks. Within the first 10 minutes there, we could feel something awesome was about to happen.

Sunshine Studios is an all ages venue, so many of the band's family members came with their children in tow. Kids running around a dark venue with extremely loud music playing and adults throwing around the "f-bomb" like it was a requirement isn't something I'm used to seeing. One of the bands drew another kind of crowd we're not used to playing for: about 20 13 year-old emo girls screeching relentlessly for their friends on stage. We were all curious to see if they'd stick around for our set, too....

We set up all of our gear backstage and patiently waited for our turn to take the stage. After the first two bands (out of 6, I might add...) had finished their sets, we were up. We had everything figured out prior to taking the stage, so it didn't take us very long. After being informed that I am in charge of not only drums but of samples, synths, and visuals, the lighting technician commented on my gear and referred to me as "a swiss army knife". He and the other sound-tech were initially a little bit confused by the set-up, but understood everything pretty quickly after I explained it to them. After 15 minutes of setting up, we were ready to rumble. The show itself was pretty epic. They had two screens projecting our visuals and a massive light-rig which was pretty much on strobe and flood lights throughout the entirety of the performance. Anyway, the music was received EXTREMELY well (the young ladies in the front row were particularly supportive of us...and Joel's lip ring and tight pants.). The only person who didn't care for us all too much was the wife of a man who took offense in one of the lines out of "What Is In The Air" ("forget Jesus Christ, now you're organized). Marty did a good job at explaining that that line is by no means a slight against God as much as commentary on the many, many "Christians" doing a fantastic job at taking the Christian faith and turning into something not at all Christ-like. Anyway....we won't get into that just now. :)

We tore down our gear after and gathered backstage hugging and high-fiving each other. Good times had by all. Once again, Josef managed to sell a sizable amount of merch. In the meantime, Joel and Marty were being ambushed by parents and their kids begging them for autographs on their CDs, Shirts, and arms. Yes, their arms. After a few more pictures with the staff, we loaded out and set out for Lawrence, Kansas (where I'm currently sitting in a Starbucks).

The night drive was long and arduous for Joel and Marty. Fog blanketed the landscape throughout the entire trip. Not exactly ideal conditions for driving after a show, but they managed to get us here safely nonetheless. This place looks like something out of Silent Hill. If it weren't for some of the friendly people, I'd probably be sitting here waiting for sirens and for everything to go black.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxC67xXpV_2weGa5FREtJ2v1KwfAau2JDCEHpkol0beLvQJprRjbunIDjUrhR1Ft-XTgE-ycNOB8FypDuHO3kfDLDTPTJBp3U4fg8E7sONDS92itlA7Td4fcwtCZaz3fEktlA-CaiyUon7/s200/Lawrence+KS+aka+Silent+Hill.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5578443327473058546" />

Now we're just killing time before we play what may very well be another epic show. Elevator Action and Actors and Actresses are sure to kill it on stage with us. We're all pretty excited. So, my report on the first show of the long leg of this tour comes to an end. Being out on the road like this is interesting. I personally struggle with feelings of homesickness and missing friends and family, but this time around I'm really learning to enjoy the company of my close friends and the many, many people we're meeting along the way. We're not getting rich out here, that's for sure. Still- this feels right. Music feels right. I can feel the passion running through my veins and the veins of my band-mates, and that is something I wouldn't trade for all the money in the world. Thank you all for your support. We love you!

Stay tuned,
Matthew//LEHNENLehnenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07121273201541251570noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1265789380650081254.post-87811502359056524182011-02-22T09:25:00.001-08:002011-02-28T02:28:06.844-08:00USA Tour, the Second<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjcn5roL16uHekNWfKxYxbXHR1GYUb6Vw5lXcGmYSy7Xnv25oM75fj-sZg874A_o9ksFDwXGw4fT0BvuwNIdMuimbDsXkXajkWZRF29dIlza5Zg7WMDADsedwM1w-kv4Dkg2WQ12dFHr3yv/s200/P1080776.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5576585106459395794" />
Well- waiting to inform all of you of the goings-on with this tour and all things surrounding until now may have been a bit unfair, so, again, I apologize. There are a few things I'd like to say before telling you about some of our plans and adventures we've had up until now.

First and foremost we'd like to thank everyone who donated so generously to our Kickstarter fund. My God, people: $3,200 in donations. That's INSANE! "Thank you" doesn't really do your kindness justice. Now that we've used the money to fly over and buy supplies for the road, I suppose I should let you know what's up with your rewards, ay? We were planning to send those out as soon as the new EP was finished, but the truth is the EP is not yet finished. We decided to take our time with it and make sure it sounds as good as humanly possible. We will be "releasing" it on April 29th, and upon completion, your rewards will be sent out in the mail. PROMISE!

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQvJJSX0IIdbVN9xcJZ_lKzlkh08BlaKzQSxxoPnKopcL3iZ7n3U3cuI920vWqqeYyRNCybTy8LSfAehgfw8alua4bFbSi7y-AvRW3QTaID8VdHAQ4JY_qJxt1eVMLrkHF165YzpB549Rw/s200/IMG_3181.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5576585120530595794" />

Now, on to the tour:
As many of you may have heard, we were actually planning to do a considerably larger tour starting with the west coast this time. Well, without blasting out potentially self-destructive information and opinions into the world-wide web, let me just tell you that not everything always goes according to plan when dealing with certain government agencies. So, regrettably, we were forced to cancel the first half of the tour. It wasn't an easy choice to make seeing as Joel and I have numerous friends and family all along the west coast. Oh well. It is what it is, and I'm sure we'll make it out there some day. Eventually, not knowing when we would depart for the new world began to wear on us psychologically and we decided to throw caution into the wind and just book the damn tickets (best decision we've made in a long time, I might add). Joel and I flew out first and began getting our gear together, trading new tires for old ones (ha- trade...for a nominal fee of $720...), redecorating the merch stand (with new and bad-ass T-Shirts featuring the cover print from "We Were Made For Destruction"), and arranging for things like sleeping bags, air mattresses, and pillows. A few days later the time came for us to pick up some Austrians. Marty and our good friend Josef (who is assuming driving and merch-sale responsibilities...and doing a fantastic job at both) arrived unharmed and unhassled. The next few days were spent practicing and running the last few errands before we set out for our first 4 shows (we were able to do the last 4 shows of the first leg of the tour).

First up was Amarillo, TX where we once again played at the 806 Cafe. Such a small yet welcoming place that seems to be filled with nothing but kind and enthusiastic people. Despite technical difficulties with our projector, the first show was a great success. Afterwards, we spent some time with our local friend, Levin, who treated us to surprisingly delicious beer, lessons on insane Christian conservatives, and his personal gun collection. I don't think Josef figured he'd get to hold an AK-47 on the first night of our tour. Land of the free, what can we say???!!!???

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_HMsJLxb3eVKIGF8U-DnHRCcEb3DOZA5XU1YwfkJkw3oc9g8pKYUMDN5uOFdO-DGTNtm1ot-FFgs5fhSUbb0wIRcXw75ET3p4DRNiHNINcELKu_FnoEeuEX7HkjnMll5acIZ7QUw14LSH/s200/IMG_3198.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5576585111054204642" />

Next up was Colorado Springs where we played for a good handful of people in a coffeeshop called Jive's Lounge; a family owned business run by sincerely warm-hearted people. Technical difficulties had so much fun with our projector the night before that they decided to switch to my sampling rig. The set was therefore cut a bit short, but good times were had by all nonetheless. The following day, we got up pretty early and drove up to the Garden of the Gods (which is as bad-ass and as pretty as it sounds).

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhl_J5yky4SAz62mRT3ABfmEh0Xoe2Ee-S-0DApjQZsuUPfZ-HXZQyBhmUS0Ww6Pn7EHrx9h9iPKdYmglBkAGXKGouevsnzKHzuyzG2Ul5xaIKKn0IAG8L3HEWRnIQxkWURAfclRXKBcfUu/s200/P1080841.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5576585120107271058" />

After that we made our way over to one of America's finest establishments: Wendy's! If you have never tasted Wendy's Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger I can assure you you have yet to discover the true meaning of beauty. With our stomachs full and satisfied, we drove a short hour and a half up to Denver. We arrived several hours too early for our show there that night, so we decided to walk around the city. After a quick trip to a bookstore and a boring walk through the (sorry, but it's true) boring city, we decided we'd sit down for a beer....which quickly turned into two beers, then three, then....yeah, I don't really remember. Feeling the effects of our good friend Stella Artois, we journeyed onto yet another burger joint for Bacon Guacamole Cheeseburgers. An hour later we finally arrived at the venue- the Rockaway Tavern- a punk venue; a punk venue that had a free of charge version of House of the Dead. After setting up and being told that the sound-technician would be a little bit late (which turned out to be 2 hours late), Joel and I did what we do best (next to playing music): cover graphic-animated walls with graphic-animated zombie blood. Score. But like most things in life, all good things must come to an end, so we took to the stage and played another short set for a mixed and partially confused crowd. I don't think we ever expected to play a song like "Coma" in front of a bunch of punks. I don't they ever expected to hear such a dark and slow song (comparatively speaking, of course) at a punk show either. Still- many people there had a good time (save for the singer of one of the other bands there that was convinced that we were trash-talking them. I was told he took the stage saying, "So the first band thinks we're just another shitty punk band. Well, f**k the first band!"- a statement thankfully [for us] met with little to no enthusiasm- not even by his band-mates). After the show, we were greeted outside of the venue by a member of the audience who was so impacted by our performance that he decided he was going to buy several copies of "Awake" (why buy one when you can have 5, right?....right?...), and then go home and pro-create with his girlfriend. He also promised us that the child would bear one of the following names: Matthew, Joel, or Martin. We drove back the Boyd's house and crashed. After a relaxing day at our home away from home, we played one last show in Fort Collins before taking the break we're currently on. The set-up for the night was slightly intimidating and a little bit demotivating for some of us (okay, fine, it was only demotivating for me... You try setting up a drum kit with a sizable sampling and visuals-rig on a stage the size of two king-sized beds!). Still, the sound-tech was beyond kind and knew his way around the system, and we were all able to enjoy the show.

So, this brings us up to date. I am sitting at the dining room table at Joel's parent's home with Marty and Josef typing away on their laptops and Joel lounging around in front of a fire and a Nick Hornby novel. We are taking our last deep breaths before diving into the second half of this tour. Many, many stories will follow, I'm sure.

Lastly, I would like to inform you all of a sad fact surrounding this whole experience. Our dear friend and bassist, Stefan, is not with us on this tour due to health problems. It was with heavy hearts that we practice and perform without such an integral part of this band, but we all decided it is what's best for now. Nonetheless, we'd like to publicly share our love and appreciation for the wonderful friend and band-member that is Stefan Sieder. We love and miss you.

For those of you who actually took the time to read all of this, thank you! Stay tuned, folks!

love,
Matthew//LEHNENLehnenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07121273201541251570noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1265789380650081254.post-30715721913929651652010-09-25T07:33:00.000-07:002010-09-25T08:11:28.256-07:00One Tour down, .... tours to goHello,

I'm currently sitting in bed at Joel's parent's house in Fort Collins, CO. Tonight we will play our last show for this tour. It's hard to believe that this whole thing will be over in a matter of hours. I don't want to make a big deal out of this, so I'll just let you all know that the last leg of the tour has been wonderful. We've played in front of some pretty small audiences in our day, but none have received us as warmly as those here. I don't think any of us thought this first tour would go as well as it did. One thing is for sure: It wouldn't have gone half as well if it weren't for some key players who helped us prepare and others who helped us along the way. I would like to take this moment to thank the following people/bands/families/etc...:

Laura Daley (mom- for being a ruthless booking agent and more importantly a fierce friend), Phil Jamieson, Ben Hofmann, David and Lisa Boyd, Sam and Jamie Bott (and the Bolinder family), John and Katie Walt, Rich and Tiff Zuch, the countless people who let us crash on your floors over the last 3 weeks (!), Hannah Boyd, Sarah Boyd, Katrin Neubacher, Jake Neubacher, SYN Vodka, Caspian (dads- we love and miss you endlessly), Rosetta (you guys destroyed in Philly. Thank you!), Dreamtigers, Japanese Sunday, Community College, and all of the other bands we had the honor of sharing the stage with. Thanks to all of the people who bought our merch and in turn helped us donate more money to Charity:Water. We didn't quite reach our goal of $5000 but every little bit counts! I'm sure I've forgotten a lot of other people here, but these ones came to mind first. Again- thank you to everyone who made this tour possible. I thank God for this wonderful experience and for the ones to come in the future.

So, tonight we play our last show in Fort Collins. After that we are going to celebrate what has been a time of learning, a serious time of traveling, a time of missing, and most of all a time of fun. America- you have not seen the last of us...

blessings and love,

Matthew//LEHNENLehnenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07121273201541251570noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1265789380650081254.post-15544564372136649082010-09-21T06:16:00.000-07:002010-09-21T07:02:35.796-07:00IIIFriends,

Would it be a blog written by Matthew Jon Prokop if it didn't start off with an apology? Nope. So: Sorry for not keeping everyone up to date on how the tour is progressing! With that having been said, let us move on! Today's blog entry will be a bit shorter. I've tried recounting all of the things that have happened since our last entry, but quite a bit has happened since then; so much that I won't be able to recmember every single event. Again, I will last the highlights of the past week or so. ENGAGE!

New York City: Well, it was my first time in New York. Upon our arrival at Times Square, we were all giddy as little school children. All of those lights, the confetti, the sea of people walking around. It was cool....and then the chaos began to sink in. All of those taxis, annoying bike tour solicitors, dudes trying to sell us their amazing (yet unheard by the majority of...well, anyone, really) rap CDs, etc, etc... It was a bit much for my personal taste. Joel, Phill, and I ended up napping in Central Park for a while Martin and Stefan spent time cuddling with their wives/girlfriends. After that, we headed out to LitLounge. The show was not all too poorly attended. The sound could've been better, and I can't say I enjoyed the bath-house atmosphere one had to put up with in the venue, but in the end, we had a great time! It was such a unique experience getting to play for an American audience with some of our friends from home strewn into the crowd. It was also Stefan's birthday, so I don't think we'll be forgetting that night. :) All in all, a worthwhile night. Nonetheless, NYC was too busy for us, so we made our way to Boston...

Boston: Joel and I had the opportunity to reconnect with a few close friends, which was really good for everyone. The Austrian half of Lehnen went downtown and played "tourist" while Joel, Phill, and I had the day off to relax and take care of a few errands. Before heading out to the show that night, our friend, Katrin, hopped into the van with us to make another stop at NICK'S FAMOUS ROAST BEEF. If you ever hit up the North Shore in MA, you need to eat at Nick's. Don't ask why. Just go. Your life will be chaneged. Forever. After that and a quick stop at the beach, we went and played one of our favorite shows of the tour. Boston/the North Shore of MA will forever be one of my (Matthew's) favorite places in the world. Awesome.

Toronto: We had originally planned to go through Canada in order to see Caspian play. Upon our arrival, we ended up getting a phone call from our friend, Laura (a.k.a. "mom"). She had found us a bar with a stage that was open to letting us play a very short-notice, spontaneous show. In the end, there were about 6 people there. Sounds lame, but we still had a blast. Those 6 people loved the hell out of our show and half of them ended up cruising over to Soybomb with us in order to see Caspian finish their set. Naturally, I ended up playing the end of "Sycamore" with them for (appr.) the 6th time, and after their show was over, the best aftershow party of anyone's tour began. I don't want to go into a lot of detail, but you know it's good when everyone goes to bed at 6am and ends up sleeping together in a mini-ramp. Yup. Awesome.

Mt. Pleasant, MI: Just kidding! We had to cancel this show. Thanks, American Border Patrol for scaring the shit out of us for 3 hours and nearly banning Martin and Stefan from the US for 5 years! You are too kind! In the end, however, we got to spend the night at Sam and Jamie Bott's parents' house (Sam and Jamie were teachers of Joel, Phill, and mine in High School). I cannot express how kind and generous these people are. We were treated like kings in their home, and after a truly frightening experience with our Homeland Security officers at the border, that was precisely what we needed to lift our spirits. To Sam, Jamie, and the Bolinder family: MANY thanks and even more blessings to you and your family. It was an honor staying with you.

Chicago (#2): The show at Elbo Room in Chicago was definitely not as well attended as we'd all hoped it would be. Nonetheless, a good handful of people from our show at Angels & Kings ended up coming to see us play again. They brought friends, too, and there were some in attendance who were definitely worth playing for. Also, we got to link up with Mom again. After the show, she and her boyfriend introduced us (formerly and ignorantly blissful...) kids to "Jersey Shore". I once read that Junius (friends of ours from Boston) were "one more good reason NOT to bomb America". Jersey Shore is the opposite. Addicting? Yes. Still, this show is everything that is wrong with humanity.

Madison, WI: Mom spent numerous hours the next day making phone calls and trying to see if she couldn't find us a decent place to play at en route to Minneapolis. As usual, she was successful, and we hit the road! We pulled up in front a restaurant/bar called Alchemy. None of us were entirely sure what to make of the place. We were pretty sure everyone there would flee the premises half-way through "What Is In The Air". We couldn't have been more wrong. Though there were only about 25-30 people there, the response was huge, and we spent a good amount of time getting to meet, sign CDs for, and trading information with the kind people of Madison. It was easily one of our favorite shows of the tour. After we loaded out, we unfortunately had to say goodbye to Mom. It doesn't happen very often that someone you've known for a total of 5 days ends up becoming a truly dear friend of yours. Laura (Mom) is one of these exceptions. We have not seen the last of each other. Not by a long shot.

So, today, we make our way to Minneapolis. We'll be sitting in an airplane in exactly one week. Homebound at last. The things you learn on tour...Well, I'll tell you when this one's over. Until then, keep us in your hearts and prayers.

love,
Matthew//LEHNENLehnenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07121273201541251570noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1265789380650081254.post-18245165722344745612010-09-09T12:54:00.001-07:002010-09-09T13:20:08.594-07:00IIFriends,

So, blog-updates aren't coming along as often as I (and maybe you) had hoped they would. Suffice it to say we are keeping very busy. I am just going to give you a brief run-down of how the last few shows went and what we have to look forward to. So, let's begin!

These last three days we played in Austin TX, Hot Springs AR, Nashville TN, and Chicago IL. Yup- LONG drives. They sucked. All in all, though, well worth it. We met some incredibly nice people who supported us those nights and expressed interest in supporting us in the future. So far the crowds we have been playing in front of...well, can't really be called "crowds". Nonetheless, those who are at the shows really dig it. It's so much different here than it is in Europe. We are definitely starting over again. Nobody knows who we are, so every night is a unique experience with regards to watching the audiences in their response to our jams. It's a great opportunity for learning how to be open-minded. There is literally no room for expectations, so the best we can do at this point is take the stage with humility, play as skillfully as we can, and have fun. It's refreshing, really.

So far, the two highlights of this tour have been playing in Nashville and Chicago. Frank Sass, the soundguy at the Rutledge in Nashville, is hands-down one of the coolest soundguys EVER. He was very patient, hilarious, and incredibly skilled. We have great mutual respect for what we do, and I think we'll be visiting that venue again next time. We also had the chance to reunite with some close friends of ours. Saying goodbye the next morning was a big low-point for me. Chicago at Angels & Kings: That show was RIDICULOUS! This place had a massive screen and a dope projector which projected Stefan's visuals all over us, and it just looked amazing. Our dear friend, Laura Daley (without whom this tour would not be happening), shot some great footage of "Coma" and one of the two new songs we're playing over here, "Home". You'll be seeing some of that footage very soon. After our show, we had the pleasure of watching Community College play. Those dudes make some of the most intricate music I have ever heard, and it works so well in the live setting. We traded CDs, so I'm pumped to give them a listen in the van. Check them out! After the show, we finally had the opportunity to load out in a relaxed fashion and just have fun. We drove out to Laura's mom's place (which is massive and just cozy in every way imaginable) and just laughed for about 4 hours straight. Twas a good night.

So, tonight we head out to Lafayette IN to play The Muse. Laura managed to get some more shows booked for us, so our first and one of the few breaks we'll get will be in New York City on the 13th. 11 shows back to back for the first half of the tour. Tiring but awesome for sure! Anyways, pictures and videos will follow shortly!

much love,
Matthew//LEHNENLehnenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07121273201541251570noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1265789380650081254.post-72423898791092842422010-09-05T00:55:00.000-07:002010-09-12T18:24:20.146-07:00September 4thhey everyone!

we have been having a great start to the tour! the support we are getting is blowing my mind.

Thanks to everyone who has come out to see us play! On one hand, I, Matthew, am in a position I have never been in: on the road, driving through endless desert, showing up to concerts with (sometimes) no places to stay, etc... It's a bit unnerving to be entirely honest. On the other hand, we are FINALLY doing something we have been wanting to do ever since Lehnen's conception. Not only are we on the road now playing a minimum of 18 shows, but we have people who are supporting us all over the place. I cannot describe with words how grateful we are for the help we have received from certain people, even financially. Lehnen are truly blessed. I am not so naive to believe that every trip and every show are going to be amazing, but this tour is already turning out to be worth it. Damn... I'm getting emotional right now as I write this. Okay- enough sentimental crap.

CO Springs at the Rocket Room: We played first in front of a good handful of people- all of which were as curious to see what this little Austrian band could do as we were to see what playing in the US was like. We had the most technical difficulties at this show I think we have EVER had at any show, but we still gave it our best and had a blast. The people seemed to enjoy it quite a bit, too! Those who were there during our soundcheck were mad at us for stopping after soundchecking "Coma". All in all, it was a great night! The other bands - Tango Red & Birds and Batteries - were both great muscially and truly sincere and kind people. After the show was over, we all piled into a motel room (after checking in at the front desk with an employee who needed a nap more than anyone else in the world....slowest dude EVER, I swear.... but friendly enough).

Amarillo TX at the 806: Small little cafe place with great vibes, wonderful tunes, and what smelled like amazing bagles. Too bad I was too nervous to eat anything. We set up and did our thing for about 45 minutes. There weren't all too many people there, and it was hard to tell whether those who were there actually enjoyed us or not. I guess they were as nervous about clapping as we were about playing. All in all, though, it was a great night. The merch booth was visited by most of the people who came to see us, and there was even a group of very enthusiastic attendees who are now planning to drive 6 hours to Denton TX to see us again tonight. Yeah- no comment other than "amazing!!!".

Denton TX at The Boiler Room: Well, this show was POORLY attended. One could easily pack 5-600 people in that place, and the sound was fantastic, too. Unfortunately, it was just the wrong night to play there. The one thing that was really encouraging about that night was that two guys from Amarillo drove 6 hours to Denton to see us again! Wow. Anyways...you win some, you lose some.

Tonight we're playing at Red 7 in Austin TX. This has great potential for being one for the books. Keep your fingers crossed! We'll be putting up more pictures and videos from time to time. Until then, take care and kiss our dearly missed Austrian soil for us from time to time. Au revoir,

Matthew//LEHNENLehnenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07121273201541251570noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1265789380650081254.post-39732722832663752292010-09-02T14:13:00.000-07:002010-09-02T14:31:18.949-07:00Lehnen USA Tour 2010In a few minutes, we are leaving on our very first tour of the USA. Each track we record i get more and more excited. There are still a couple of songs that need writing before we can finish up the recording sessions, so i am praying we don't lose momentum.

As for the songs themselves,those of you who have heard our first record, will notice a seemingly abrupt departure from many of the light-hearted poppy elements which distinguished that album. I don't want to say that "we've found our sound." Besides being cliche, that would also be depressing. I hope we never come to a point where we become boxed in by the boundaries we have set for ourselves. This record shows how our music is evolving, bringing us places, we've always wanted to go.

Here is another short clip from our studio. Enjoy!

cheers, joel
